I signed up for a class at the local UW school, and ended up shelling out 465 for the class. Today I went to pick up the book for it. The lady at the book store helped me find it, which ended up being 150. I had to buy it brand new because the school decided to use a new book this year. Next semester Im going to buy my books online.

Books, the biggest racket in college today...

Buy new for 150
sell at end of quarter for 30
They sell it used in the store for 90
buy it back again for 20-25
sell it again for 90
don't buy the book back
get a new book that now costs 160. Same book but they changed four words and moved the chapters around.

Repeat.

yeah i spent $396 on books and apparently i have to get a computer program for another $109

When books seem kind of expensive, I ask teachers if the previous edition is fine. Most of the times, it is, and it's never held me back in a class.
