Red Sox legend and the oldest living Hall of Famer Bobby Doerr died yesterday at the age of 99.
Not only was Doerr a baseball legend...he was a legend among sports memorabilia collectors. Doerr was renowned for his kindness to fans. To those of us who collect autographs, Doerr was considered one of the best signers. He happily signed through the mail until very recently...SCF's database shows successful autograph requests as recently as last month. Truly a kind man.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Doerr a few times in my youth as a childhood friend of mine was next door neighbors to him. Just a very nice man.
