so since dialup is so slow im reading the paper while screens load and came across a thing about the army finally hitting goal for recruits...
some lady says that the recruits are less qualified now though since the army is now taking in more folks without diplomas or those who have criminal records...
Ray DuBois, who recently served as Undersecretary of the Army stated that "Only 19% of recruits lack traditional high school diplomas , and that 60% score in the top half of the armys aptitude test"
ok, time to pick this apart...
what skill labor force do you know of that nearly 1 in 5 isnt a high school graduate?
who think that 19% is a LOW %?
how does 60% of anything score above the 50th percentile?
remember folks the military doesnt grade people like traditional school tests, everything is 'out of 100 people you scored on average better than xx of them' so how does 60% make up 50% of people
now im not here to get anyone pissed off at me, but how does a press release like this get released?...i understand that traditional education isnt for everyone, but before this whole gulf round 2 thing started, it was VERY hard to get into the service with a GED. the only time they would let you in, is if they were short on numbers for the month/quarter/fiscal, because towards the end of the cycle is someone hasnt pushed their numbers through they get a bad eval...
while i see nothing completely wrong with 19% of the new army recruits being dropouts, i just think publishing that number is wrong...remember the military IS allowed to discriminate in their hiring practices.
