any electricians in the house?

my brother just got the estimate from the electrician on his basement, it was $3200...

is it standard to charge $60 to hook up a plug in?...seriously my brother already has the boxes mounted to the studs and the guy wants $60 per recepticle, same with the can lights, $60 each...

plus this would be like a 'side job' i think, its a friend of a friend that would be doing it

brother is getting "hosed" big time .... for a side job that guy is charging plenty.

My son is going to college for Electricial Construction ....to him hooking those boxes up are a piece of cake.

Damn definitly sounds high. Im in the process as well of doing my basement. Ive had a little bit of experience doing wiring and stuff, but never really done it but Its really simple to do it. Basically run your outlets in series of 6. Connecting outlet to outlet through the screws on it. As far as can lights they are not bad either. I wired about 20 outlets and 15 lights. The lights are in groups of 5 and on 3 different dimmers. Its simple just read the instructions that come with the lights. Run all the wires to the box and hook them to breakers.

if its just can lights and outlets he could almost do it himself, i definitely would not pay 3200 for the whole thing, i think hes getting hosed

thats what i thought...but yeah its not 'difficult' to run, my brother just doesnt like doing that sort of crap...kinda like the drywall, hes going to hang it all but pay someone to tape/paste it cause he hates that crap too

nothing wrong with paying for someone else to do it if you can afford it but i still think thats a bit steep
