Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Saturday in Houston on a charge of resisting arrest, a spokesman at the Houston Police Department Central Jail told NFL.com and NFL Network.

Peterson was arrested around 2:30 a.m. CDT and spent the night in jail at the Houston Police Department. He was released on $1,000 bond at 10:41 a.m., according to the spokesman.

Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle first reported the arrest Saturday.

"We are aware of the situation," the Vikings said in a statement on Saturday. "We will withhold further comment until more information is known."

The spokesman would not go into detail about what led to Peterson resisting arrest. The jail booking lists the offense description as "Resist arrest/Search-Unclassified."

Peterson, 27, has spent this offseason working his way back from the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered on Dec. 24. The sixth-year pro has spoken repeatedly of a Week 1 return to the field.

The Vikings signed Peterson to a seven-year, $96 million deal in 2011. In five seasons, Peterson has totaled 6,752 yards and 64 touchdowns on the ground.

You really can't be arrested for resisting arrest. Unless you're being arrested. Maybe he was fighting off a heart attack. Resisting cardiac arrest. But that's not against the law until ObamaCare is in place- I thought there's just a fine for it, though. Actually a fine disguised as a tax, or vise-versa. Ask John Roberts to clarify it.

actually you can be. That is a charge in and of itself. They just decided not to pile on with the extra charge at booking

My buddy Ron who lives in Houston posted a transcrip on how he though it went lol

HPD = Time for everyone to clear out
Peterson = Hang on, i need some water first (because i don't have to do what you say, when you say it b/c im AP)
HPD = I don't think so son and we really don't give a shiz who you are, get your *** outta here
Exchange of words with a shove = thats azz going to jail in Houston

I love how he pulls the shortness of breath deal after he was put in bracelets.(real man move there) So typical once guys realize they are going to jail. Like somehow that will change the charge or situation

Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith said Peterson was at a downtown nightclub early Saturday morning when an off-duty Houston police officer working security asked Peterson and a group of people he was with to leave because the club was closed.

The security worker, whom Smith said identified himself as a police officer, left to tell other patrons to leave the club before returning to Peterson's group to again tell it to leave.

Smith said Peterson turned around and told the officer that he heard him the first time and pushed him in the shoulder, causing him to stumble. The officer told Peterson he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back.

Peterson began yelling, pulled away and "assumed an aggressive stance" with another off-duty officer who came to help. Peterson continued to struggle with both, Smith said.

The 27-year-old running back was finally handcuffed with the help of a third off-duty officer. Peterson complained of shortness of breath after he was taken to a Houston jail and was examined by Houston Fire Department personnel, who said that he was OK.

I get so sick of hearing about athletes getting popped for one thing or another then whining about how it was so unfair .....those guys put there pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us. They need to just man up and take responsibility for their actions. What ever happened to being the role model .....?
