    Collectors Guidance

I'm about to go through this same challenge. I dug up some old cards and am really wondering if I will ever have enough time to put a sizeable dent in to the pile haha. The forum regulars here are super helpful and I'm glad that I have someone knowledgeable holding my hand through it, because I...

Just dug up a box of old cards

Unfortunately these cards are just loose in a large tupperware box. It appears that the few cards that I looked at briefly had some lightly bent corners. I will upload some pictures on the weekend perhaps. There are both hockey and baseball cards, with the hockey cards from about 90 to 94 I...

Just dug up a box of old cards

This is a beautiful sentiment and I definitely agree. That being said, the box that I found is mostly of the "leftover" cards I think. If I recall correctly, I had a binder or two of my favourites. I will have to check and see if I can find those as well at some point. I don't think I'll have...

Just dug up a box of old cards

Thanks for the thorough and detailed response. I think what I'll try and do first is to lay out a bunch of them on the table and snap a picture for your guys' perusal and see if there's anything remotely worthwhile. There's a shoebox of assorted cards that I've very very briefly leafed through...

Just dug up a box of old cards

Hey so I took some time this long weekend and dug around my parent's basement and found a box of sports cards from my childhood. What's the best way to go about finding out if any of them are worth holding on to, or passing off to someone else to enjoy?

Where do you store, protect, and display your cards?

Wow that's really neat. It really lends legitimacy to the whole operation eh? Does it get entered in to some official registry somewhere? (I assume since there appears to be a unique identifying number below the "GEM MINT" score.

Remember Michael Jordan? Greatest Player of All time?

Wow that's pretty tragic. It makes you think whether this type of adversity is what makes the difference between a great athlete, or just another washout that ends up in the gutter.

Where do you store, protect, and display your cards?

I think I know what you mean by sandwiching it between plexiglass - however getting it "graded", is this some sort of governing body that grades the cards based on... condition? Rarity? A pic or two would be awesome if it isn't too much of a hassle.

Where do you store, protect, and display your cards?

It's just an interesting set up that seems kind of unconventional. Any chance you could snap a pic of the safes?

Where do you store, protect, and display your cards?

What's "slabed"? I assume you meant to write "slabbed", by which I'm imagining some sort of display? Sandwich it between plexiglass?

Where do you store, protect, and display your cards?

Good call. Though if you have a fire proof safe... why wouldn't you have your family pictures in there instead of your cards? Rather, why not both? Another thing, as I'm relatively young, I don't have a ton of physical photos. Most of my pictures are digital so I guess my external hard drive is...

Any BST for Magic the Gathering?

Man, I miss playing Magic. I recall poring over cards and spending hour after hour thinking up novel combos to play against our friends. I mean, we played super casually, in that we didn't have any block restrictions or anything like that... but we followed the rules to a T. Such a strategic...

Where do you store, protect, and display your cards?

I'm not the one who's storing a safe within a safe. That'd be @pojokers - but yeah it's definitely something that's a little more than the average person would do I think. I mean, just a safe itself can get pretty expensive, much less two of them!

Hockey Gretzky Signs a New Deal with Upper Deck

I'm continually amazed at this collector subculture and how many subtleties it has. I'm pretty sure that I've learned something new each time I've logged on to the forums.

Hockey Gretzky Signs a New Deal with Upper Deck

Haha thanks for the explanation.. I think. Okay, well at least it makes sense now instead of these nebulous acronyms that I had no idea about. So could you have an AU on a GU? Does this also include non-card items like sticks and such?
