bears game, 1:20 to play...griese hit as he throws, caught by bears lineman who fumbles into endzone recovered by detroit...

they do a booth review and say it was a fumble, and since it was in the final 2 minutes, fumbles cant be advanced, so once recovered by the lineman it was a deadball...

bears retained possession

if the bears win this could be a huge ruling...

Glad the bears made it a moot point by getting embarrassed down the stretch :roflmao:

to me it looked like he was in the motion of throwing, and i didnt know you could decline an illegal touch as detroit was doing to get the touchback...just a strange rule id never seen take shape that way before....

I thought any fumble, no matter the time on the clock, can not be advanced by the team who fumbled the ball. The ball can be kicked and juggled down the field and then recovered, but where you recover it is where the play ends.

Under five minutes in the game, if you fumble, you must recover it. It is the Ken Stabler rule after he intentionally "fumbled" the ball downfield and someone recovered in the end zone for the game winning TD.

I thought Detroit got possession though?

detroit did recover, but the ball was placed at like the 12 with the bears retaining possession because that is where the fumble took place
