TCG members opinions and fb needed

I pm'd Brett today with an idea about posting tampered SPA patches on TCG and he liked it, but he thought I should ask other members for their opinions and fb on my idea.

So here it is:

Over the last few months(esp. the past couple of weeks) there has been several fake SPA's briefly listed on Ebay. Most of these patches are only around for about 24 hours, which is generally the time it takes from when I first notify UD's fraud dept., who in turn contacts Ebay, who then removes the auction from their database. So many of these tampered SPA's auctions are never seen by many. However many of these fake cards are now being sold at shows to unsuspecting buyers, then in turn re-sold on Ebay, only to be yanked again by UD.

With me heading back to teaching in about a week, I won't be able to police Ebay as diligently. So it's possible that many of the tampered SPA's could be live for several days before I stumble across them and if they have a BIN many could be sold. Here is an example of what I am talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-SP-AUTHENT...6QQcategoryZ111056QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcm

What do you think about having a place on TCG that I could post scans of known tampered SPA patches. This way any TCG members who might be interested in buying a nice looking SPA could cross-check with the database to see if it has been identified as a tampered SPA patch.

Would there be a way to make it where only members of TCG could access the page, in order to keep "guests" from viewing the page also?
If so we could make a post for anyone to see explaining the idea, but you need to be a member to view the page.

LMK your thoughts,
Jeff

PS Please don't suggest that I post all 32,000 of my SPA scans, as I have stated a few times before, it would allow any "would-be" counterfeiters to cross-check their SPA's they were thinking of tampering.

I think this is a great idea! We can either put the thread in a forum that guests can't read or create your own forum and make it members only. Either way we will figure it out and it a great idea!

Great idea. I come across multiple SPAs and instead of having to PM and wait, I can just view. Good idea

ABSOLUTLEY!!!!

But how do we know that someone wont find out about it, sign up here, then check the patches, is there really anyway to police that?

BTW, youre a total badass for keeping that stuff up, and because of you I got 2 of the cards in my sig! THANKS MAN!

It won't really matter who sees the patches I will be displaying, as they will only be patches that have already been proven to have been tampered. I am only going to post the actual tampered SPA's that I have found over the last 6 years. It's to keep people from being innocent buyer's of an already tampered SPA.

Gotcha! Im all for it, would be a GREAT resource!

that is a great idea, maybe we make it a private forum, so the guests can't see it.

i found out from work that there is a lot that you can see from the "guest" status.

Brett,
How's it coming on putting something together for me to post all my scans? Not trying to rush you at all, but another past tampered SPA patch just popped up last night on the Bay.

Honestly, what I would do is this, lmk. Since we are only posting KNOWN FAKES, and are not worried about them knowing we know, we can make (for now) a link to photos you have in photobucket (if you want us to make a TCG photobucket account and add them there I will do that as well). Then, we'll put a link in quick links or reference as a menu eventually, but for now we can just make a thread, and just put by year the players name and serial # of the card and that will be a link to the photo... or, we can just list the photos, depends on how many you are adding, don't want to kill the thread for many people :D
